PornHub includes Tether as payment option following PayPal ban

Popular adult website, Pornhub has added Tether (USDT) as a payment option, following PayPal unexpected ban to the platform recently.

The update of its payment methods trails a link to Tron’s Justin Sun after the conclusion of the agreement with Paypal.

The inclusion of Tether stablecoin was made public by an announcement made by an official blog post.

It discloses that PornHub now supports Tether to allow instant and zero-fee payments via the crypto wallet and browser extension TronLink.

PornHub has also clarified that it would be using the USDT which is issued on TRON’s network. Noting, that its users can take advantage of cryptocurrency wallets that support TRON-based digital assets.

TronLink is a native wallet for Tron (TRX), and the 12th largest cryptocurrency by market cap that is backed by the Tron Foundation.

The USDT token became available on the Tron network after Tether and the Tron Foundation partnered and released the first Tron-based USDT tokens in April 2019.

PayPal Ban

PayPal had earlier halted its service for PornHub due to alleged payment permission violations.

According to reports, PayPal, one of the world’s biggest online payment processors, stopped doing business with the site because PornHub purportedly made some payments without its permission.

The move reportedly affected hundreds of thousands of users who relied on the service to transfer money generated on the site into their personal bank accounts.

PornHub spokesperson told Motherboard that decisions like PayPal‘s “do nothing but harm efforts to end discrimination and stigma towards sex workers,” before hinting there would soon be new payment options that were sex worker-friendly, as well as more cryptocurrencies.

Following the news, the crypto community made a push for major cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) as a new payment option on PornHub.

However, PornHub models were reported to have a lack of general knowledge of cryptocurrency, with some models noting that they did not know what crypto is.

Justin Sun reaction

TRON’s Founder and CEO, Justin Sun, also offered his views on the subject, saying that this is a “brilliant way to support the victims of centralized payment platforms like PayPal.”

Notably, as TRON’s CEO, explained PornHub’s need for alternative payment options came at a point when different crypto platforms could embrace and utilize this opportunity.

Previously, the cryptocurrency community responded, suggesting that this is the opening that digital assets need to gain additional mass adoption by showcasing their benefits.

Some of the most prominent proponents, including Sun and Binance’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao, outlined the opportunity.

Notably, this is not the first PornHub is partnering with a digital currency company.

Back in 2018, the adult entertainment website partnered with cryptocurrency Verge (XVG) to accept the coin as payment for PornHub Premium and all PornHub purchases.

Although, things are expected to change with the most recent announcement from TRON and Tether.

Notably, using both, PornHub might indeed provide a sustainable alternative that can help the vast number of adult movie actors and website users.
